Friends of the Whittier Narrows Natural Area

About us

Nueva Maravilla CDC at Whittier Narrows Natural Area

The Friends of the Whittier Narrows Natural Area is an all-volunteer, 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the 419-acre natural area, a historic wildlife sanctuary, a center of environmental education and an important community resource located on the San Gabriel River between the Montebello and Puente Hills.

We promote the preservation of the Natural Area and neighboring lands as open space corridors, and we promote and assist with restoration and educational uses of the Natural Area that are compatible with the conservation of plant and animal habitat and migration, historical resources, water quality, and public health and safety.

We are an organization distinct from the Whittier Narrows Nature Center Associates, but we support the Associates and the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation in their conservation and educational work at the Natural Area.

Meetings

Our working meetings are the second Sunday of each month. We invite you to drop in and participate in our activities. You can find us in the picnic area of the Whittier Narrows Nature Center, 1000 N. Durfee Ave., in South El Monte, across the street from South El Monte High School. (Map)
